What is Goodguys AutoCross? It's the engine revin', tire screechin', race against the clock action going on within the Goodguys events. Professionals and Goodguys members alike compete for the fastest time on tight street courses trying to beat the clock and avoid the cones. If you haven't experienced it yet, get over the course at the next event! If you've seen and love it, follow along as we look to crown the 2019 AutoCrosser of the Year at this season's final event - the 22nd Speedway Motors Southwest Nationals!

Two 8-Car Shootout:

The winner of the PRO-X/PRO shootout will be invited to Scottsdale for the Duel in the Desert. If the winner has already received an invite, it will go to the runner-up. If both have received or decline the invite, no one will be invited. The winner of the SM/TR/HR shootout will get an invite to Scottsdale for the Duel in the Desert. If the winner has already received an invite, it will go to the runner-up. If both have received or declined the invite, no one will be invited.

National event shootout points will be earned from the top finishers, 1st- 8 points, 2nd- 4 points, 3rd- 2 points and 4th- 1 point. Points will be added to your total from each shootout (except the Duel in the Desert and the Sponsor Shootout).

At the Pleasanton events the points will be earned from the top finishers, 1st- 6 points, 2nd- 3 points, 3rd- 2 points and 4th- 1 point. Points will be added to your total from each shootout (except the Duel in the Desert and the Sponsor Shootout).

If you start in Street Machine, Truck or Hot Rod and you get up to 30 combined points or three wins, you will move up to PRO. You could still win SM, HR or TR and become the Class Champion for the year. If you start the season in PRO you can only be the class champion for the PRO class and not SM, HR or TR. If you are in the PRO class Goodguys has the right to move you to PRO-X if they see fit. All classes will receive points for the year if you are one of the 32 cars in the Duel in the Desert Shootout in Scottsdale AZ. A points payout will be determined.

PRO & PRO-X Class:

In addition to the Pro Class we have added a new PRO-X class. PRO-X class will consist of vehicles that won a shootout in 2018 and the top sixteen cars in the 2018 “Duel in the Desert” Shootout Scottsdale Fall Event.

AutoCrosser of the Year:

Must compete in a minimum of three event shootouts during the 2019 season not including the Sponsor Shootout or Duel in the Desert Shootout. Be within the top sixteen points for your class. And the highest winner of the Duel in the Desert Shootout that meets all of these requirements.

All vehicles will have the following general rules:

1. All entries must be registered participants with Goodguys for the event they are competing and must be street licensed, insured, street legal with all lights and safety items. (No comp entries can run in the AutoCross except Sponsors of the AutoCross).
2. The registered name on the vehicle window sticker will be the only driver that can drive the vehicle. If you have two drivers, you must have two window stickers with each driver’s names (no more than two drivers in one car and one window sticker per person). If someone else drives the car that is not listed, times will not count and takes the driver’s run for that session.
3. Once a driver and car are entered into the Duel in the Desert Shootout, that car cannot gain any points for any other driver and is the only car that driver can drive in the Duel in the Desert Shootout.
4. Drivers can only gain points off one car per event. (One window sticker per person)
5. Cars can only be run in one class.
6. All entries must run a Goodguys AutoCross decal to run on the track; you will get this after the vehicle has passed tech. Drivers in the event shootout will run a Goodguys shootout decal.
7. You must be present at the end of your competition for pictures and the awards at the track if you are the class or shootout winner on Saturday of National events and Sunday of the Get-Togethers.
8. All passengers must be 18 years or older unless riding with parents. If riding with a parent, the minimum age is 10 years old and the minimum height is 4 feet 9 inches tall. All competitors and passengers must sign an event waiver.
9. Driver must have a current state issued license and current insurance.
10. All cars must be teched before racing and receive an inside windshield decal.
11. After any incident, the vehicle must be re-inspected.
12. All decisions made by race officials will be enforced and are final.
13. No unsafe driving will be tolerated.
14. No burnouts to or at starting line or outside the safety area.
15. Smoking is not permitted in the pits, grid area or inside the racing area at any time.
16. Each participant is responsible for any and all damages brought on by themselves or their vehicles at the event. They are responsible for any damages, legal fees and clean-up fees by facility or event coordinators.
17. Not stopping at the exit stop sign is an OFF-Track penalty with NO time recorded.
18. No alcoholic beverages allowed for driver or crew members in the pit or track area.
19. When a car comes off the track there is a maximum time of three minutes that the next car must be lined up to run or it is a DQ for the car that should be staged.
20. All rules subject to change and the Goodguys has the final say and decision.
21. Any verbal or physical action towards any Goodguys staff will result in a disqualification for that event.
22. Goodguys may adjust rules during the season.
23. Goodguys has the final say on all decisions at the track.

Cone Penalty Diagram

 

If racing a two-lap track and you hit a cone on your first lap you must drive around the chalk box on the next lap to not get another 2 second penalty. The chalk box becomes the cone on the second lap no matter where the cone is located as the cone is out and considered a dead cone.

Car safety rules:

1. DOT tires that are available to the public from a commercial retail outlet at the time of the event and UTQG tread wear will be limited to 200 minimum. After April 15th, all tires series must come in a minimum of four sizes. Any tread wear rating below 200 or not visible will be exhibition only and times will not be recorded or promoted. No tires can be down to the wear indicators.
2. Must have all lug nuts on each wheel and must remove hub caps during runs if equipped.
3. Wheel bearings must have no play.
4. Batteries must be mounted securely by mechanical fastener to the body or chassis.
5. Overflow catch can for the radiator is mandatory.
6. All hoses must be in good condition with no cracks, swelling, deterioration or leaks.
7. Brake pedal must have good resistance and not go to the floor.
8. All wheels must have working brakes of at least 50% of original thickness and fluid must be full with no leaks.
9. Steering column must be tight and secured; no binding or looseness.
10. Seats must be mounted secure to body or chassis.
11. Seatbelts must be a minimum of a lap belt and secured to the body, bar, seat anchor bolt or frame. Any passenger riding must also have a seatbelt of the same caliber of the drivers.
12. Gas cap or tank vent must not leak on the track and tank must be securely mounted.
13. Fuel tank must be mounted in stock location or SFI/FIA fuel cell mounted securely. (Trucks may relocate tank)
14. Exhaust must exit outside of the body, behind driver and be securely installed. Mufflers are required with no open exhaust or open headers allowed (98db max/idle @ Del Mar)
15. All entries will have all body panels of such vehicle (Fenders, doors, hood, deck lid and bed sides on trucks). Body must be within 10% of original production decided by Goodguys.
16. Must have front and rear glass or lexan and side windows must be rolled down during run times.
17. Brake lights must be working at all times on the track.
18. Throttle must have a return spring with no binding.
19. No leaks under vehicle.
20. Open top cars must have a roll bar over the driver head and if a passenger is riding it will require one for them as well. No helmets can protrude above roof or roll bar.
21. All loose items must be removed from the vehicle including floor mats.
22. Helmets are required in all classes for drivers and passengers, DOT or SFI approved.
23. All passengers must sign a release waiver, and this is the responsibility of the driver.
24. Tech will open at 7am about one hour before racing starts. Please stay with your car until it has made it through tech and you have your decal.
25. Tech will close at around 9am and then re-open at noon to 1pm for any new cars that come to run. You must have been teched and walked the track to run during the event.
26. If the track needs to be altered during competition, all times will be thrown out and new times will be run for all participants with time permitting.
27. Re-runs or round robins must be at least 10 cars or 10 minutes between runs. (except shootouts)
28. Weight/Ballast must be properly secured and if it come off during event you are disqualified for the weekend

PRO--X-Class: PRO-X

• PRO-X class will consist of vehicles that won a shootout in 2018 and the top sixteen cars in the 2018 “Duel in the Desert” Shootout Scottsdale Fall Event.
• PRO-X Class will be competing for an award, points and the chance to be a featured in the Goodguys Gazette at seasons end along with qualifying for the AutoCross Duel in the Desert Shootout in Scottsdale November 16th, 2019.
• PRO-X Class vehicles must be 1987 or older in appearance, representing a production car.The PRO-X Class will be competing with a points system for the 2019 season. Each event that you compete, you will earn points, based on your time to complete one lap on the course. (National events, ten points for first and one point for tenth. Get-Togethers, five points for first and one point for fifth) The season points winner will get a feature in the Goodguys Yearbook.
• If you are driving a different car from the previous year or shootout, class will be decided by Goodguys.
• Goodguys has the right to move any car to PRO-X as they see fit during the season.

PRO-Class: PRO

• PRO-class will be all vehicles that were the Class Champions from 2018 and the 16 drivers from the 2018 “Duel in the Desert” Shootout Fall Scottsdale Event that do not fall into the new PRO-X class along with sponsor cars and they must be house cars only or owned by a full-time employee of the Sponsor Company.
• Maximum front tire width is 315mm. (If over you move to PRO-X)
• Minimum vehicle weight is 3000 LBS less driver. (If under you move to PRO-X)
• All PRO cars will be weighted to start the season. Goodguys will make adjustments to the weight as needed for compact cars within this class. Goodguys will spot check weight during the season as needed.
• PRO-Class will be competing for an award, points and the chance to be a featured in the Goodguys Gazette at seasons end along with qualifying for the AutoCross Duel in the Desert Shootout in Scottsdale November 16th, 2019.
• PRO-Class vehicles must be 1987 or older in appearance, representing a production car.
• The PRO-Class will be competing with a points system for the 2019 season. Each event that you compete, you will earn points, based on your time to complete one lap on the course. (National events, ten points for first and one point for tenth. Get-Togethers, five points for first and one point for fifth) The season points winner will get a feature in the Goodguys Yearbook.
• Goodguys has the right to move any car to PRO as they see fit during the season.

Street Machine Class: SM

• All vehicles must be 1950 to 1987 in appearance, representing a production car.
• Maximum front tire width is 285mm. (If over you move to PRO)
• Minimum vehicle weight is 3200 LBS less driver. (If under you move to PRO) Goodguys will make adjustments to the weight as needed for compact cars within this class.
• Goodguys Get-Togethers will be 1950 and newer.
• The SM-Class will be competing with a point system for the season winner. Each event that you compete, you will earn points, based on your time to complete one lap on the course. (National events, ten points for first and one point for tenth. Get-Togethers, five points for first and one point for fifth) The season points winner will get a feature in the Goodguys Yearbook.

Hot Rod Class: HR

• All vehicles must be 1949 or older cars in appearance, no trucks, deliveries or panels allowed in this class.
• Maximum front tire width is 275mm. (If over you move to PRO)
• High-Boys and Roadsters are not required to run fenders or hood sides but must run a hood top.
• All Roadsters must have a roll cage.
• The HR-Class will be competing with a point system for the season winner. Each event that you compete, you will earn points, based on your time to complete one lap on the course. (National events, ten points for first and one point for tenth. Get-Togethers, five points for first and one point for fifth) The season points winner will get a feature in the Goodguys Yearbook.

Truck Class: TR

• Must be 1987 or older at the National events and all year trucks at the Pleasanton Get-Togethers.
• Minimum vehicle weight is 3200 LBS less driver. (If under you move to PRO) Goodguys will make adjustments to the weight as needed for compact trucks within this class.
• Any vehicle with a bed, panel trucks, deliveries, El Caminos and Rancheros will be in this class.
• 1940 and older trucks are not required to run fenders, roof or hood sides. (must have roll bar if no roof)
• Fuel tanks do NOT have to be in stock location, but must be securely mounted.
• The TR-Class will be competing with a point system for the season winner. Each event that you compete, you will earn points, based on your time to complete one lap on the course. (National events, ten points for first and one point for tenth. Get-Togethers, five points for first and one point for fifth) The season points winner will get a feature in the Goodguys Yearbook.

All American Late Models Sunday only at National Events. AAS

• All American Made or American Powered 1988 and newer cars and trucks will be in this class and can only run on Sundays at the Nationals events.
• Tread wear should be production equipped rate or 200 minimum and maximum size of the largest production size tire for that vehicle. (If less than production equiped or 200 treadwear you will race in FUN run only)
• Car safety rules and car general rules will be enforced for this day as well.
• The AAS-Class will be competing with a point system for the season winner. Each event that you compete, you will earn points, based on your time to complete one lap on the course. (National events, ten points for first and one point for tenth. Get-Togethers, five points for first and one point for fifth) The season points winner will get a feature in the Goodguys Yearbook.

Format for the events:

Each National event will have class winners from qualifying Friday and Saturday until 3pm. Sessions will start with PRO-X, PRO, TR, SM and HR so everyone gets the same amount of runs each day. At 3pm, class winners will be announced to set the two 8-car ladders from the quickest overall times in qualifying and 16 cars and drivers will make up the shootout. Four PRO-X and four PRO make up one Shootout and four SM, two TR and two HR will make the other. If a class does not have 8 entries to fill the field, cars will be added from the other class to get an 8-car field for each shootout.

At the Pleasanton events, qualifying will be Saturday and Sunday until 11am and the two 8-car ladders will be set from the quickest overall times in qualifying and 16 cars and drivers will be part of the shootout. Four PRO-X and four PRO will make up one Shootout and four SM, two TR and two HR will make up the other. If a class does not have 8 entries to fill the field, cars will be added from the other classes to get an 8-car field for each shootout.

The 32 drivers that compete in the Duel in the Desert Shootout in Scottsdale AZ, the Class Champions and the Sponsors of the AutoCross will receive a season pass good for one car entry and two weekend passes at each event they attend during the following season.

AutoCrosser of the Year:

Must compete in a minimum of three event shootouts during the 2019 season not including the Sponsor Shootout or Duel in the Desert Shootout. Be with-in the top sixteen points for your class. And the highest winner of the Duel in the Desert Shootout that meets all of these requirements.

Duel in the Desert Shootout:

Goodguys 2019 AutoCross Duel in the Desert will take place at the 22nd Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, AZ on November 15 & 16, 2019. There will be 32 vehicles and drivers.

Friday entries into the shootout run with everyone trying to race their way into the finals.

Saturday the fastest 32 cars move onto the qualifying and set the 32-car field.

Saturday at 11am, 32 cars will get one qualifying run before lunch and one at 1pm. This will set the ladder for the finals shootout.

The Shootout will have a PAX time deducted for each class. Example (Pro-X runs 60 seconds and the fastest PRO runs 62 seconds the whole PRO class will get a 1 second deduction from their time in the shootout and the fastest SM runs a 65 the whole SM class will get a 2 second deduction from their time in the shootout)

Saturday at 2pm eliminations will start from the bottom of the 32-car ladder. There will be a run off after the fourth round to decide 3rd and 4th place. At the end of the day we will have the winner of the Goodguys “Duel in the Desert” AutoCross.
